Warehouse Model

A warehouse you can reason about before you build it. One set of parameters drives a real FreeCAD engineering model, a traceable analytical model and a live 3D view. Change the racking, the docks or the throughput, and the physical, operational and financial consequences update together.

What it does

  • Designs the buildingRacks, aisles, receiving and shipping docks and the building around them, laid out from the parameters and shown in 3D.
  • Calculates capacity and costStorage capacity, utilisation, lift-truck travel, dock and truck queues, labour and annual cost of ownership. Every result shows how it was derived.
  • Simulates a working dayRandom truck arrivals, yard queues and lift-truck tasks, repeated over 30 days to show the range around each result.
  • Supports the decisionSaved scenarios side by side, sensitivity charts, and an optimiser that finds the cheapest design meeting your targets.
  • Hands over to engineeringExports to IFC (BIM), DXF floor plans and glTF 3D, and imports real movement and inventory data to set the inputs.

How it is built

Every input lives in a single parameter file, read by both the FreeCAD script and the web app, so the CAD model and the calculations cannot drift apart. Automated tests check the calculations, the simulation, the optimiser and the exports, and confirm that the FreeCAD model and the web app lay out the same designs identically. The app runs entirely in your browser.

Author

The Warehouse Model was designed and built by Daniel Alberto Sepulveda Estay, PhD, founder of Estay Dynamics. He works on system dynamics, simulation and network optimisation for supply chains and operations. He holds a PhD from the Technical University of Denmark and an MSc from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is a council member of the System Dynamics Society.
